The Mobile World Congress is all set to kick off on February 26, 2018 in Barcelona, Spain. The event will see big launches from Samsung, Sony, Asus among others. However, the Chinese smartphone maker will not be doing anything big at the event.
Last year, there were were rumours that Xiaomi would launch its Mi 7 flagship in Q1 of 2018. Given that Samsung and Sony are all set to launch their flagships at the MWC, it was being speculated that Xiaomi might also follow suit. However, according to AndroidHeadlines, a high-level employee in the company has revealed that Xiaomi will not be launching the Mi 7 at MWC, or any other new smartphone for that matter.
At the MWC, which is to kick-start on February 26, the only announcement that Xiaomi could make is Surge S2 chipset. This means that Xiaomi is saving the Mi 7 or Redmi Note 5 or the Mi Note 3 for the foreseen future, and hence, we may not see the devices go official anytime soon. This could be Xiaomi's strategy to skip major announcements at MWC obviously because its rivals like LG, HTC and Huawei are prepping up to launch their flagship devices -- G7, U12, and P11 respectively. Also, how can we forget the Galaxy S9 and S9+ that will be the stars of Samsung's MWC event? Then there's Sony that's gearing up to announce Xperia XZ Pro and HMD Global who's planning to unveil a couple of phones like Nokia 9, Nokia 7 Plus, and Nokia 1.
The source code of the event page of Mi.com revealed that Xiaomi is planning to launch the next generation Note 5 in India. The smartphone is rumoured to come with a bezel -less display with 18:9 aspect ratio just like the Mi Mix 2 smartphone of the company. If this is true, then Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 will be the first smartphone in the Note series to come with a full screen display.
