The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has issued a warning for Android users regarding critical security flaws affecting recent Android versions. These vulnerabilities, recently patched by Google, Qualcomm, MediaTek, and Samsung, pose significant risks to user data and device security. It’s imperative for Android users to update their devices immediately to safeguard against potential exploitation by attackers.
CERT-In’s advisory highlights multiple vulnerabilities detected in various components of the Android operating system, including Framework, System, AMLogic, Arm, MediaTek, and Qualcomm. Rated as “High” severity, these flaws impact Android versions 12, 13, and 14, posing threats such as unauthorized access to private information, privilege escalation, execution of malicious code, and denial of service attacks.

Google has promptly addressed these vulnerabilities in its Android Security Bulletin for March, providing detailed solutions for bootloader vulnerabilities, flaws in Arm and Qualcomm components, and security issues affecting Wi-Fi and kernels. Samsung has also released updates safeguarding its devices against nine significant vulnerabilities, including those in Wi-Fi and AppLock components, through its Security Maintenance Release (SMR) Mar-2024 Release 1 update.
Updating smartphones with the latest monthly security patches is crucial to mitigate known vulnerabilities. Google’s Android Security Bulletin confirms that devices updated with the 2024-03-05 security patch level are shielded from these security flaws.
