WhatsApp has rolled out a significant update, offering users enhanced chat organisation capabilities using pinning. With the latest feature, users can now conveniently pin up to three messages within a chat, revolutionising conversation management.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and WhatsApp Head Will Cathcart announced this update via their respective WhatsApp Channels. Previously limited to pinning just one message, this improvement marks a significant stride in enhancing communication efficiency.
Introduced in December last year, the ability to pin messages was initially restricted to one message per chat. However, this latest update expands users’ capabilities, allowing them to elevate their chat management experience by pinning multiple important messages.
The new feature is inclusive of all message types, including text, images, and polls, providing users with easy access to crucial information within their chats. Whether it’s an address or details about an upcoming event, pinned messages serve as invaluable reference points.
To pin a message, users can simply long-press on the desired message and select the “Pin” option. Additionally, users can specify the duration for which the message remains pinned, ranging from 24 hours to 30 days, ensuring relevance and organisation within the chat interface.

While messages pinned for longer durations will require re-pinning after 30 days, users can alternatively use the “Star” feature to mark messages for quick access via the contact information menu. In addition to the enhanced pinning feature, WhatsApp has introduced a new beta version of its messaging app, offering an improved app lock feature. Beta users now have the flexibility to utilise their device’s passcode for app authentication, enhancing security and convenience.
Furthermore, users of the Android 2.24.6.16 version will notice the addition of chat filters, positioned at the top of the conversation list. These filters enable users to streamline their chat view by categorising conversations based on specific criteria, enhancing overall chat management efficiency.
With these updates, WhatsApp continues to evolve its platform, delivering enhanced features to its global user base. Stay tuned for further advancements aimed at enriching the messaging experience for millions worldwide.
