Google has begun reinstating several Indian digital apps on the Play Store, including those from prominent companies like Info Edge and Shaadi.com. This move comes after these apps were temporarily removed for non-compliance with Google’s app billing policy. The reinstatement follows efforts from both the companies and Google, aiming to resolve the issue promptly.
Info Edge founder Sanjeev Bikchandani and CEO Hitesh Oberoi confirmed the availability of Info Edge apps on various platforms. They expressed their gratitude for the teamwork that led to this outcome. Meanwhile, government sources revealed that a meeting between Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Google is scheduled to address the situation further. Despite the reinstatement, challenges remain, particularly regarding in-app billing options. Shaadi.com founder Anupam Mittal mentioned on social media that the app now operates as a consumption-only app, lacking in-app billing functionality.

However, concerns persist about the long-term viability of such arrangements. Google’s actions on March 1, delisting several apps, sparked significant attention and reactions from the Indian digital community. This move came after Google announced its intention to enforce its payment policies uniformly across all developers.
The Supreme Court’s decision not to intervene in this matter further fueled discussions about fairness and compliance. Google defends its actions, emphasizing the need for a level playing field and adherence to established policies. With ongoing legal proceedings and discussions, the future landscape of app billing and compliance in India remains uncertain.
