Adobe has unveiled its latest generative AI experiment, Project Music GenAI Control, aiming to democratize music creation and customization for individuals without professional audio experience. The announcement was made during the Hot Pod Summit in Brooklyn, showcasing a prototype tool designed to enable users to generate and edit music seamlessly using text prompts.
Project Music GenAI Control empowers users to kickstart their music creation journey by inputting text descriptions that dictate the style of music they desire, such as “happy dance” or “sad jazz.” Adobe’s integrated editing controls then allow for further customization, enabling users to tweak repeating patterns, adjust tempo and intensity, and refine the overall structure of the music. This intuitive interface ensures that users can easily mold their generated music to suit their specific preferences and requirements.

Furthermore, the tool offers advanced features such as remixing sections of music, generating audio loops for repetitive content needs, and adjusting the audio based on a reference melody. Users can even extend the length of audio clips to accommodate various formats like animations or podcast segments. While the exact user interface for editing generated audio remains undisclosed, Adobe promises a seamless and intuitive editing experience.
During the public demo of Project Music GenAI Control, Adobe utilized public domain content to showcase the tool’s capabilities. However, it remains unclear whether users will have the option to upload their own audio as reference material or the maximum length for extending audio clips. While similar tools like Google’s MusicLM and Meta’s AudioCraft exist, they primarily focus on generating audio from text prompts with limited editing capabilities. In contrast, Adobe’s Project Music GenAI Control aims to provide users with unprecedented control over their music creations, akin to the pixel-level control offered by Photoshop for images.
Project Music GenAI Control is a collaborative effort between Adobe, the University of California, and the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University. Although still in its early stages, this experiment represents a significant step towards revolutionizing music creation and editing. While there is no public release date yet, users can track the development of Project Music GenAI and other Adobe experiments on the Adobe Labs website.
